Any country and society in the world has its own peculiar and native characters. Artist Joshi also had developed and followed this concept in his art. So he called his painting series "My land and my people", begun in 1972. In his paintings he chose the life-style of native people and their daily activities, he selected the seasonal and occasional activities of peasants, and the cultural festivals and functions, which are purely Nepalese in milieu and in presentation, because these people are unique, as reflected in their native culture, dresses, philosophies, rituals, religions and social activities. In his landscapes also he selected such spots which represented Nepalese geographical, historical, religious, environmental elements and characters. We find the temples and houses in his images authentically Nepalese.
His own country Nepal is a land of amazing extremes with the highest Mt. Sagarmatha (i.e. Everest) and the forested plains in the south with hot climates and fertile farming land where the cultures, life-patterns, nature, daily activities of the people are varied and very different from the hill people. Moreover, the landscapes have different charms and beauty due to vegetation and forest.
On the other side, in towns and cities one can find old buildings with carved windows, medieval palaces, temples, stupas. The pagoda temples, shrines and streets have their own beauty and charms with hills on the far-off background.
Artist Joshi, highly enthusiastic and spirited wanted to search in some adventurous way, the essence of Nepal, and he travelled to remote hilly and untouched areas of the country. He worked under the open sky in rain and hot sun and had his own sweet and sour experiences but returned with paintings reflecting upon Nepalese life.
